1991 Noel Doubleday visited an orphanage at Solotcha south east of Moscow. His intention was to give out Bibles but he discovered the children were in desperate need of food and clothing. 1993 Love Russia was born and is awarded charity status by the UK charity commission. 1993 - 1999 Bi–annual visits supporting basic needs are established, reaching out to 16 projects. 1999 Alex Cooke took hold of the reins following Noel’s retirement. 2000 Developed current 50/50 model with Russian local authorities. First 8 students started on the Genesis bursary educational support program. 2003 Summer Camp program began providing a week of fun, games laughter and love. 2004 Dedicated work with the severely disabled began. 2006 Recognised Genesis as a major project which now has dedicated volunteer staff that monitor 80 – 90 students every year. 2008 Shilova Environmental audit completed following two years of study. Environmental study presented at the Mendelev University congress. 2010 Since the beginning, over 600 projects have been supported by Love Russia. These include orphanages, schools, disabled homes, baby homes, juvenile detention centres as well as the Genesis scheme. Love Russia is still committed to meeting basic needs wherever possible and has often been the first outside organisation to enter into difficult situations. We work by coming alongside, without criticism, listening to needs and supporting projects and staff through nurturing relationships. |
