The Ride

On the 1st June 2012, a group of motorbikers, will embark on the second Ride for Russia, this time on a coastal route of Ireland to raise funds for the Genesis project.

The riders hope to raise £10,000 to provide some of the essential funding need for this orphanage leavers support program.

The Genesis Project is a scheme that helps orphanage leavers and other disadvantaged young people to gain a college education and learn life skills.  Sadly, too many of them end up destitute on the streets.  At 16 years old young people in Russia have to leave their orphanages and official figures show that only 9% manage to integrate into normal society successfully. In September 2000, Love Russia, launched the project Genesis for eight orphanage leavers which helped to cover the cost of their basic needs while they attended college. Since then more than 600 orphanage leavers and young people from needy families have taken part in the program. 96% have successfully integrated in normal society, achieving a high standard of education and getting better jobs as a direct result of the support they have received. In 2009/10 83 students have been helped but the number of places that can be supported through existing giving has declined because of the economic crisis. Meanwhile the number of young people that need support continues to rise.

The Ride for Russia will take around 1 week.  Riders need to be over 18 and in possession of a motorcycle that is in excess of 450cc.  There is no upper age limit, however, being of reasonable health and fitness is advisable!
