Leading Youth

“Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them - not because you must, but because you are willing… not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.” 1 Peter 5:2–3

Dasha and her husband Artyom have embraced this Biblical call. In a world where many young people grow up surrounded by dysfunction, chaos and instability, they are showing what it means to shepherd with love and consistency. They understand that children don’t just need words about faith - they need to see it lived out.

For the kids involved in their Open Hearts Youth Group, every session is an opportunity to be witnesses for Jesus. Whether baking, crafting, playing games, or going on outings, the activities create a safe space where their youth feel wanted and cared for. Creative tools like drama help them explore healthy responses to difficult situations (like choosing peace over anger). Through films and discussions, they explore emotions and consider the powerful influence that the media, and constant access to the internet, have on the mind. And, whenever possible, the group attends children’s conferences, where youth are invited to discover more deeply who Jesus is.

For some of our youth, this journey toward Christ involves deep healing. Sofia (right), is one of them. Her childhood was marked by her mother’s imprisonment and addiction, and years in an orphanage. Within this group, she has found people who listen, guidance, and countless one-on-one conversations that helped her process grief and bitterness and turn it towards forgiveness. A turning point came at summer Bible Camp - a woodland retreat that brings together youth like Sofia and families from the Women’s Crisis Centre. Away from daily struggles, camp becomes a powerful mix of games, worship, laughter, and encounters with Jesus.

Another life changed is Katya’s (left). Four years ago, she was a troubled 14-year-old in foster care who desperately wanted to attend camp. She pleaded with Dasha to take her, though it meant stretching already limited resources - every extra child meant more food, more supplies, more cost. By God’s provision, they made it happen. Today, four years on, Katya is still walking faithfully with the Lord, a living testimony to the power of saying “yes” when God opens a door.

We know that early influences can shape a life forever - either breaking it down or building it up. That is why we thank God for this youth group, and for two faithful shepherds (Dasha and Artyom) who are not only meeting practical needs but also planting eternal seeds of faith in young hearts. Seeds that, by God’s grace, will grow into lives transformed for His glory.

If leading Russia’s youth to Christ, and giving young people from homes of chaos the chance of a better future is important to you – please pray for this group. A gift towards Dasha and Artyom’s youth group could help towards things like creative materials or opportunities for youth to attend camps and conferences.

Together, we can help more young people in Russia discover the One who brings true and lasting hope.
