10 Years of Support!
It was 10 years ago that a lovely lady called Galina was supervising at a drop-in centre for orphans. She told us that funding for the centre had been withdrawn and the building was to be sold. Galina was heartbroken – especially for her teenage orphan girls, many of whom, desperate for real families of their own, were embarking on relationships and having babies that they would be unable to support. From that funding she would gift each of her young mums £20 each month to he

Stories of Hope for Lent
This Lent, we are reminded of renewal and the power of loving others. For some young people in our youth group, hope of a better future once felt distant.

Brokenness to Hope
Ekaterina is 29 years old, and on her second attempt at recovery. To look at her, you'd never know her deep-rooted troubles. She appears together, both as a mum, and professionally as a teacher, but her past is full of loss and pain. “My earliest memories are of my dad who was always intoxicated. Mum kicked him out but he would beat the windows – it was terrifying." After that, she gained a stepfather who was a good person. When Ekaterina was 21, single, and pregnant with he

Thank you for being there
Imagine having a sick child but being unable to proceed with treatment or surgery that could ease their suffering – or even save their life. Or imagine it was you… if you didn’t have enough food or even a safe place to sleep, what hope would you have of funding the medical care needed to walk again, or to stop an infection? These are the predicaments those who benefit from our projects are in. During the last year, we have been approached many times for urgent medical help -

Leading Youth
“Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them - not because you must, but because you are willing… not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.” 1 Peter 5:2–3 Dasha and her husband Artyom have embraced this Biblical call. In a world where many young people grow up surrounded by dysfunction, chaos and instability, they are showing what it means to shepherd with love and consistency. They understand that children don’t

Homelessness to Home
We first knew of Issaak back in April - he is nearly 60 years old. He'd just been discharged from hospital for a second time and was suffering with an infection having previously had both his feet amputated due to frostbite. Before this, and before the operation to remove his feet, Issaak had been homeless, had spent many nights out in the cold - and he was one of the regulars at our Soup Kitchen. It was clear Issaak relied on alcohol. His body was in immense pain and he was

Meaningful Moments
As any parent knows, there is great joy than creating special memories and celebrating meaningful moments with your children. The families we meet come from deep poverty - they survive on extremely limited budgets or have no income at all. For them, even the simplest celebrations are feel out of reach. Toddler Matvei arrived at the Women’s Crisis Centre with his mum and baby brother. His mother had grown up as an orphan and endured abuse from the children’s father. They had

Meet Anatoly
The Soup Kitchen we support has been up and running for around seven years. Soup was lovingly prepared at the Crisis Centre kitchens and distributed from the Crisis Centre grounds. Their able-bodied residents got involved with the serving and cooking as a way of ‘giving back’ for all the care and compassion they had received themselves. For those running projects in Volkhov, there is concern... “There are so many poor people on the outskirts of the city.” – Alina In more rec
