Meaningful Moments

As any parent knows, there is great joy than creating special memories and celebrating meaningful moments with your children. The families we meet come from deep poverty - they survive on extremely limited budgets or have no income at all. For them, even the simplest celebrations are feel out of reach.

Toddler Matvei arrived at the Women’s Crisis Centre with his mum and baby brother. His mother had grown up as an orphan and endured abuse from the children’s father. They had nothing - no possessions, no safety, and no way to survive on their own.

Here, at the Centre, life looks different. Watch this video to see the sheer delight on Matvei’s face as everyone sings to him, and the joy in his mother’s eyes as she gives her son a birthday cake. Together with the other children at the Centre, they shared a small birthday tea - a tradition here for every child.

A birthday celebration may not be a necessity, but feeling valued certainly is. And for a parent, the chance to show your child that they are loved and special is truly priceless.

You can help parents in poverty create moments like this with our Memories in the Making Alternative Christmas Gift.
