Imagine having a sick child but being unable to proceed with treatment or surgery that could ease their suffering – or even save their life.
Or imagine it was you… if you didn’t have enough food or even a safe place to sleep, what hope would you have of funding the medical care needed to walk again, or to stop an infection?
These are the predicaments those who benefit from our projects are in.
During the last year, we have been approached many times for urgent medical help - each time it’s been a privilege to be in a position to bless someone - thanks to your generosity.
Among them was young Matvey (above). Born prematurely, he had many health difficulties that required treatment. His mum Marina was totally reliant on the Women’s Crisis Centre for their survival - she had no way to fund what her son desperately needed. The most serious of his conditions were a painful hernia that needed surgery and his sight that was failing.
Because of generous people like you, we raised what was needed and surgery could go ahead. Today, post treatment, this little family are thriving! Marina is working towards independence and has completed training as a beauty therapist – soon she hopes to begin securing an income for herself and Matvey. And Matvey - he has begun school! "Thank you very much. Without the surgery, he would not have been accepted and allowed to go to school!” – Marina
The Men’s Crisis Centre are grateful for support so they can provide frequent hospital visits for the many sick and wounded men in their care. On top of running the centre, this additional responsibility needs resources!
Baby Abrim’s story was an urgent one. If his life was to be saved, his tiny heart needed immediate surgery. When we asked how he is doing now, Alina replied: “The surgery was a success, and the doctors are surprised at how quickly he has been recovering - but we know the power of prayer!”
Most recently we learned of Stefan; having had a freak accident in the woods after picking up an unexploded device, Stefan suffered horrific burns to his face, arms and neck – his eyesight was also in question.
Because of when this accident occurred, we were only able to share this news with our email readers but committed to providing the funding regardless. They gave generously and we quickly raised £3,000 of the £4,500 that was needed.
If helping in situations like these is something you would like to be part of, a simple donation directly to our medical fund would be a great help: loverussia.org/emergency-fund
As for Stefan – his sight was saved, his face is healing and his recovery is all moving in the right direction!
